Why will be useful Artificial Inteligence and the Internet of things in home?

In 1997 IBM’s computer “Deep Blue” won Garry Kasparov for 3,5 to 2,5 in a six games serie.  Since then, the superiority of the human intelligence on the artificial was eliminated. Nowadays, the speed of calculation of any program of chess advances all the combinations that a certain play originates and foresees to the instant a suitable response and ... always the winning one.
The Chess example  is useful to introduce the concept of Artificial Intelligence. We are going to quote the definition of Kaplan and Haenlein: “ the capacity of a system to interpret correctly external information, to learn and use the knowledge to achieve tasks and concrete goals”. Let’s analyze the definition thank the previous example: the “ external information “ were Kasparov’s plays and its subsequent combinations, the “ knowledge used “ were the computer databases and the goal was to win.
However, some time ago but that the applications of the Artificial Intelligence exceeded the universe of 64 squares.  Main companies see business in it. For this reason, they have launched its own devices for the home. This way, Amazon put to the sale “ Echo show “, Google “Google Home” and Apple “Homepod”.
So the, AI  is quicly entering in our lifes. How it works? Gathering information, evaluating it, and crossing it with the answers of the user. Does it sound abstract? Probably, but its applications are clear. Let’s imagine that we always arrived home around eight PM. On 19:30 the heating is activated so  when we enter into the house we will be warm or when we enter, the lights will come on: the AI tries to know our habits.
This is where the second concept comes  the Internet of Things: “It refers to the connectivity of everyday objects with the Internet”. That is, the IoT transforms the data collected by the IA into actions such as those described in the previous paragraph. There are countless actions in which the interaction between AI and IoT works, for example: to make the shopping list before the fridge remains empty, to know in advance the the food expiration date, block the access of our home to intruders by smart locks, scan the user’s body to detect if he is dehydrated without forgetting plugs that program when the different devices start and when they turn off. That is, the IoT satisfies all the user needs.
What are the pros and cons of the automation provided by the sum of AI and IoT? The first pro is impressive: some of the functionalities of virtual assistants will save our lives. Are we exaggerating? No, it is already possible to measure the sugar on blood and, therefore, anticipate a diabetic coma or through cameras see if the house inhabitant is suffering an epileptic shock or has fallen -and notify to the hospital-. In an scenario of increasingly aging population and, therefore, in general propense to illness these technologies will be vital. Another advantage already mentioned will be the ability of AI and IoT to anticipate user needs: everything that can be automated is susceptible to being transformed by these technologies. Finally, it exists the ability to recognize who enters the house and how to deny entry to an intruder. Ultimately, in the future, life for the general public will be more comfortable, more secure and, not least, less expensive, providing that no appliance is left in “stand-by” (artificially raising our electricity bill by 10%-15%).
However, AI and IoT  have also drawbacks. A simple question: What does it mean that the majority of objects in a house are connected to the Internet? It means that they are “On the net”. Although it is true that connectivity starts the possibility of executing its different functionalities, it also anticipates a great weakness: a possible remote hacking of Internet-connected and interconnected devices. What could be done with the hackers? Open the door at the convenience of a hypothetical band of thieves, or handle any appliance how they want.
This point worries companies  and the customers. Despite this danger, at Feliu we believe that the technologies described are the present and will be the future. Other problematic points are to maintain intimacy in our house how to ensure that we do not spy through hacking? The electricity dependence  and the vulnerability to interruptions of the supply, in addition to the possibility of widening the digital gap between the population that owns these technologies and the one that doesn’t (the price, although it will be adjusted by the market, is now expensive ).

To sum up, as any technological revolution will triumph because of the functionality and the enormous progress that it implies. Now, we must be proactive and answer the users doubts and not fall into uncritical optimism. In Feliu it is necessary to convey that we are in the case of the irruptio0n of the AI and the IoT. In fact, some of our directives and our Community Manager have already attended conferences on the subject. We know that we will need more and more training
